"The Love of God"

We went to the beach tonight. A nice long walk. The girls running on the beach, getting excited over each sea shell. The calming crash of the ocean waves. Watching the sunset reflect off the clouds over the water. Looking out to the horizon and realizing that the vastness can't be fathomed from shore. The lyrics of the hymn "The Love of God" came to mind:
The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.

Refrain:
Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

I don't typically think about God's love. I trust in it. I can teach on it, but I don't meditate on it. That requires one to stop...be still and quiet and then pay attention to what God has revealed. I can quote Psalm 46:10, "Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth." It's just so hard to not get so engrossed in my own little world that I remember to pay attention to His. Maybe the next time we take a family walk, we can go through the woods.
